When a super famous starlet posted this photo on her Instagram, she received over 602k likes. It was a far cry from the images she normally posts. They are usually polished, gorgeous and flawless, in an authentic way (if you could imagine). But this image was so powerful, it received four times the likes that a photo of her put-together-self usually commands. And the reason is probably directly related to its caption.

Please read below.

This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity. Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.
I can’t believe it has been 4yrs! It feels like maybe 2. I think that is a good thing. Ha. There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic. The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do. I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free.

This is the corresponding photo:

This was taken from the Instagram post she posted on November 1, 2021. Because we didn’t want to give it away right at the start, please click to the next page to see the Instagram post the starlet posted the day before with her family on Halloween.

The starlet in the featured photo of this article is Jessica Simpson. Yes, we’ll give you a moment. We couldn’t believe it either. In order for you to see that she doesn’t currently look like that, here is a photo she posted of her family and her on Halloween 2021. She looks healthy, gorgeous and vibrant, a long ways away from the woman in the photo, on the previous page.

The differences are night and day. What this tells us is the following:

  1. You can change your circumstances.
  2. You don’t have to stay where you are, you can move (figuratively and physically).
  3. It doesn’t matter where your start, it is about how you finish.
  4. We ALL go through difficult times, no matter how much money or support we have.
  5. You can show up for yourself, in the form of self-love and self-care, and change everything — as long as you put in the work and put one foot in front of the other, and keep going!

This is absolutely inspiring, and we are so proud of Jessica for showing us this intimate and private side of her. Who knows how many people she helped just by being honest. In the end, it is much easier to talk about something, once you’re out of it. Either way, we are so inspired and encouraged by this. Thank you, Jessica, for your humility in sharing such an honest moment in your life.
