Jacinda Ardern Turns 40 With High Polls

On Sunday, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, turned 40.

Speaking to the Press today, the Prime Minister shared that she spent her 40th birthday “having some quiet time” and reading cabinet papers.

When asked how her day was celebrated, she responded, “Like everyone else actually, a bit of cake and a bit of quiet time.” But the Prime Minister also added, “that’s actually not true, not like everyone else. I don’t think everyone else probably reads Cabinet papers on their birthday, but I did.”

This morning, Prime Minister Jacinda Arden was presented with a birthday cake by members of her office. Posting a photo of the cake from her official Instagram account, she wrote,  “Every night they send me off with one of these briefcases, an edible one made for a very nice change!”

Her partner, Clarke Gayford, also celebrated her on Instagram writing, “I don’t really do these posts, but I think a bit of symmetry like the number 40 is worth positing on. Happy Birthday today to my favourite achiever in the whole wide world, someone, who despite everything on her plate, still finds time to squeeze lots of fun, love and happiness into our wee family unit. The. Best. xx”

Also on Sunday, her party charted 61% in a Newshub-Reid Research poll which is the strongest result on record for Labour. The Guardian reports that if the poll numbers hold, Ardern will become the first leader since Jim Bolger’s booming win in 1990 to be able to govern with a clear majority.
