And then there is Ann Liu, who wore thirteen haute couture looks across a two-continent, multi-event celebration that unfolded like a very well-dressed fever dream. According to Vogue, the San Francisco civil ceremony, Greek destination wedding, Chinese tea ceremony, welcome dinners, and beach day each had their own fully realized wardrobe moment — pulled from the ateliers of Chanel, Dior, Schiaparelli, Valentino, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, and more.

Ann, a USC alum who now works in her family's business in Shanghai, approached couture the way most people approach a creative brief. She worked directly with each house to develop her pieces, selecting fabrics, adjusting millimeters, and layering signature elements from different collections into single looks. "Couture is vocabulary for me," she told Vogue. "It stopped feeling like buying clothes and became about designing pieces of art and memory." Stylist Carrie Lauren Goldberg assisted with accessorizing select looks, while her mother's jewelry collection anchored the rest.

Something Borrowed, Something Entirely Bespoke

The ceremony gown — a mermaid-silhouette Chanel with an off-shoulder neckline, camellia lace, and signature buttons trailing down the back — was built from scratch by the atelier. But the look that preceded it was a 1996 vintage Chanel haute couture dress and cape worn as a kind of opening act. For the welcome party in Greece, Ann wore a cream feather-fringe Chanel dress she spotted at Matthieu Blazy's debut couture show in January and had rush-produced in time — a process that typically takes six months. The post-ceremony look was a Schiaparelli design by Daniel Roseberry with a wave asymmetrical hemline so striking it became the blueprint for the wedding cake. The final look of the night: a Jean Paul Gaultier corset dress with a dragon motif bodice and a Swarovski crystal skirt that, by her own account, "caught every light in the room."

The celebration itself was designed with the same precision. Ann and her fiancé Brandon Zhu — a former U.S. Navy officer now completing his MBA at UCLA — held their civil ceremony at San Francisco City Hall in February 2026, then flew 53 guests to Amanzoe in Greece for a May destination wedding built around their shared obsession with Greek mythology. Two custom Adrian Gan cheongsams honored their Chinese heritage during the tea ceremony, each embroidered with family members' zodiac signs, favorite animals, and personal symbols. The planning was handled with Alice Wilkes Design, though Ann, by her own admission, knew exactly what she wanted from the start.
