Naomi Osaka Pulled Off the Most Theatrical Costume Change at the French Open

Reported by Harper's Bazaar.

The French Open has barely begun and Naomi Osaka is already making everyone else look like they just rolled out of bed. The Japanese tennis star arrived at Roland Garros on Tuesday for her Women's Singles first-round match against Laura Siegemund, and she did not come to simply play tennis.

Her entrance look was full spectacle: a sleeveless corset-hemmed top embroidered with black beads, sequins, and a scatter of red and clear gems, worn with a glittery black pleated maxi skirt. Glamorous goth athlete is the only way to describe it — like she had somewhere more important to be after this, and that place had a dress code.

The Reveal

Then came the costume change. Before the first serve, Osaka reached for her racket and casually shed the entire entrance look to expose what was underneath: a gold ruffled athletic top trimmed in golden sequins, paired with a matching mini. Both kits were custom Nike, according to Harper's Bazaar, and the brand clearly understood the assignment. She completed the court look with powder-pink sneakers, a black visor, and a terrycloth wristband — also Nike — hair pulled into a braided bun. The only thing missing was a Labubu charm, conspicuously absent this time around.

Osaka won the match, which means the fashion is far from over. The tournament runs through June 7, and if the first round is any indication, Roland Garros 2026 has a new unofficial dress code: theatrical, sequined, and entirely on your own terms.

When the outfit has a second act, you're not just playing the game — you're running it.
