Princess Kate and Prince William’s New Home Is Reportedly a “Perfect Fit” for Their Family

Reported by Harper's Bazaar.

Princess Kate and Prince William have officially settled into Forest Lodge, their new Windsor Great Park mansion—and royal insiders are calling it exactly what the couple needed. The move from their previous home at Adelaide Cottage marks a deliberate shift toward a residence the palace has positioned as their "forever home," one they plan to anchor themselves to even when William eventually ascends the throne.

What makes Forest Lodge work for them isn't just the eight bedrooms or the tennis court and manicured grounds. According to Harper's Bazaar, royal biographer Katie Nicholl told The Mirror that the location itself is the real win: it's close enough to Windsor and London for work obligations, while also placing them nearer to Kate's family—a priority for the couple. "They seem to prefer smaller residences; homes that offer a more intimate family setting than giant, ostentatious palaces," Nicholl explained. Forest Lodge, while nearly double the size of Adelaide Cottage, reads as intentionally scaled-down compared to the palatial sprawl of somewhere like Kensington Palace's Apartment 1A.

Designing for Three Kids (and a Future)

What's telling is how Kate has approached decorating the space. Rather than channeling royal formality, she's reportedly zeroing in on the needs of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—creating what royal historian Amanda Foreman described as a home built around childhood and family life. The Princess of Wales is leaning into a "contemporary classic" aesthetic, according to Tatler, which signals a departure from stuffy palace interiors toward something livable, modern, and built for actual people rather than pageantry.

The privacy factor matters too. After years of navigating the constraints of more exposed royal residences, Forest Lodge offers the Wales family breathing room—literally and figuratively. It's a calculated choice that reflects how this generation of royals thinks about home: not as a stage for ceremonial distance, but as an actual place to raise kids, maintain family bonds, and exist somewhat beyond the public eye. The message from the palace is clear: this is where they're staying, and they're making it theirs.

Sometimes the most radical move a royal can make is choosing comfort over spectacle.
