Ayo Edebiri’s Latest Look Is Business in the Front, Party In the Back
While the look appeared more subdued from the front, Ayo Edebiri turned around to reveal a true fashion mullet.

Reported by Vogue.
Ayo Edebiri has mastered the art of the reveal. At the BFI London Film Festival, where she arrived to promote her new film Clarissa, the actor wore a Chanel spring 2026 couture look that rewarded anyone patient enough to wait for her to turn around.
From the front: a sleeveless cream top, a black mid-length pencil skirt, what appeared to be a peplum of asymmetrical raw microfringe. Understated. Almost restrained. Then she turned. That peplum was actually a plume — 19 bejeweled silver buttons trailing down her spine before erupting into a voluminous feathered tail. A fashion mullet in the most elevated sense of the phrase. She completed the look with classic black sandals and hand-blown glass Métiers d'art earrings: jade green posts with dangling carnelian drops.
The Designer Behind the Drama
The look is the work of Matthieu Blazy, whose fixation with the avian appears to be deepening. At his spring 2027 Chanel show — which Edebiri attended in Paris just days prior — he suspended a flock of illuminated birds above the Grand Palais. The feathered tailpiece reads less like coincidence and more like a signature. According to Vogue, Blazy explained his design philosophy backstage: "I think there is a space for poetry, beauty, joy, and it's a good remedy to the dark time. I think fashion should give this to women."
It's a quiet but pointed argument against fashion's default setting of severity. Edebiri, who has an instinct for looks that feel genuinely personal rather than stylist-assembled, is exactly the right person to make that case. The surprise doesn't read as gimmick — it reads as character. Which is, of course, the whole point of couture.
When fashion remembers its capacity for delight, the results tend to be unforgettable.
